Grotte de la Salamandre

On Sunday 15th June we decided to visit Grotte de la Salamandre, to see the brilliantly illuminated cave system we had noted on tourist brochures in Uzès, and which had been recommended by Tanya.  The cave system is less than a one hour drive north of Uzès, and a nice 30min walk through a forest from the carpark.  The very new entrance café and tourist centre is architecturally impressive, with great views out over the tops of trees into the valley below.

The guided cave tour lasted 45 minutes, and was quite an easy walk.  Most of the time is spent in the main part of the cave, a huge cavernous area, with a winding footpath to take you to key feature areas.
Aside from the brilliant structural features, the other highlight is the coloured light show.  Using many coloured projectors, they change the look of specific structures or areas by alternating between different combinations of lighting, every 30 seconds.
